Meals & Nutrition
Mealtime and snacktime are an important part of LB’s developmental program.
LB provides a nutritious lunch five days a week. Lunch meals are provided by Fairfax Food Service, a catering company committed to healthy eating, and consists of an entree, a vegetable, a fruit, whole grain bread and milk.
A morning and mid-afternoon snack — yogurt, cheese, crackers, milk and other healthy items — are provided by LB. Fruit and vegetables are provided by parents. A snack menu that repeats every two weeks is provided to parents and posted in the classroom. LB serves milk or water for all meals and snacks.
Parents have the option of bringing in food for their infant, or they can choose to have LB provide school lunch and snacks for them as well, with a doctor’s note if they are under 1 year old. Infants not on solids need their parents to supply their own formula/breast milk.
Though we are not a nut-free facility, all foods served are nut-free.
LB does not serve breakfast, so we ask that parents ensure their children have something to eat before arrival each day.
Food can be brought from home as an alternative to LB-provided lunch (or snack), or for a special day celebration.
Monthly menus are posted in each classroom and sent home to parents. Parents should provide alternative foods if required due to religion, or a special medical diet. Fairfax Food Service does provide allergy options for children with more common allergies, such as dairy and egg. We can also try to accommodate for less common allergies, but parents may need to supplement some food.
