Our Story
Established in 1986, Little Beginnings is non-profit, year-round, full-day parent cooperative childcare center.
In 1983 five moms who were concerned about the lack of parental involvement at typical daycares decided to create a new kind of center. They founded a non-profit corporation to devise a new, co-operative approach to childcare, which became known as Little Beginnings Child Development Center.
Related services include speech and language therapy; occupational or physical therapy may also be provided on site to eligible LB students as determined by the APS Child Find special education process. Children enrolled in the APS program may also apply to be enrolled in the full-day program at LB.
Today, we are a learning community where personal and professional growth is encouraged, and where everyone’s perspective — children, parents, and teachers — is valued.
We are proud to be part of an inclusive learning community that empowers all students to explore their possibilities. Through Arlington Public Schools’ Preschool Integrated Program, children with special rights between the ages of 3 and 5 participate in a part-day integrated learning environment. These inclusive classes are team-taught by Little Beginnings staff and a special education teacher and assistant employed by Arlington Public Schools.
Little Beginnings is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and Arlington County. Our facility is inspected at least once a year by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Social Services and the Arlington County Department of Human Services’ Child Care Office, as well as by the Fire Marshall and Health Department.
